Vaughan Williams DONA NOBIS PACEM

Julian Wachner, conductor
Joanna Mongiardo, soprano
Laura Vlasak Nolen, mezzo-soprano
William Hite, tenor
Stephen Salters, bass
Special Guest, Sam Donaldson

Join The Washington Chorus as we pay tribute to our nation's veterans with two intensely powerful works. Experience the famous, thunderous kettledrums of Haydn's Mass in Time of War paired with Ralph Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace). Vaughan Williams' turned to the text of Walt Whitman as well as the scriptures to create one of the most poignant and eloquent pleas for peace in all the choral repertoire. Dynamic guest conductor Julian Wachner leads the chorus and orchestra with a cast of world-class soloists. Award-winning ABC News correspondent and U.S. Army veteran Sam Donaldson opens the concert.

TALK BACK!

A post-concert Talk Back! in the Concert Hall immediately follows the performance. Murray Horwitz, Director of the AFI Silver Theater and NPR commentator joins conductor Julian Wachner.
